She began acting in the age group of 13. [2] After taking several classes and doing background work on Canadian shows like Road to Avonlea and Harriet the Spy, she got her first speaking role in the Canadian children's horror series Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of The Dark?, both series were aired in 1997 on YTV. The show was followed by commercials as well as appearances as a guest star in Mutant X, Prom Queen: The Marc Hall Story, Goosebumps, Twice in a Lifetime, Doc, Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye, Troubled Waters, The Dresden Files, and a few Disney Channel original movies (Mom's Had A Date with a Vampire and Alley Cats Strike), aged 19, going to York University where she studied Psychology and English. Vandervoort was offered the lead role of Sadie Harrison in the CTV teens' drama Instant Star, which had a run of four seasons. The film that she played her first in, The Lookout, was released in the year 2006. The film starred Jeff Daniels along with Matthew Goode as well as Isla Fischer. Several other television appearances like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation led Vandervoort to take on the role of Clark Kent's Kryptonian cousin "Kara Kent" (the girl who was to be Supergirl) on The CW serial drama Smallville. The actress was a regular for season seven and was in"Bloodline," season eight's "Bloodline" episode for season eight. Three years later, in the tenth season and its final episode Smallville in the tenth season, she was able to reprise her role in two episodes. Vandervoort directed the sequel in the series Into the Blue, titled Into the Blue 2 - The Reef. The Jazzman is her third independent production. She also starred the Canadian actor Michael Ironside, who appeared in the second V miniseries and the regular 1984 V series.
